About Eardisley

Eardisley is a village in Herefordshire about 5 miles south of the market town of Kington and about 15 miles north of the Cathedral city of Hereford. Eardisley is in the Wye valley in the northwest of the Herefordshire, just off the main Hereford to Brecon road and close to the border with Wales.

The village of Eardisley has a population of about 600 and is on the "Black-and-White Trail" in North Herefordshire in the Welsh Marches. The village has many timbered buildings along its high street and a number of converted barns now offering luxurious accommodation. Recent work on timbers in some of the High Street buildings has revealed that some parts date back to the 14th century.

Eardisley has a thriving primary school, two pubs (one incorporating a post office), several shops and a beautiful church - St Mary Magdalene's. The Church boasts a celebrated Norman font of the Herefordshire School, carved with allegorical figures, bearing a resemblance to the carvings at Kilpeck in south Herefordshire. The font is particularly notable for its combination of intricate Celtic knot work patterns with Norman figures. The font remains used for baptisms.

Apart from being an entrancing village, Eardisley has a healthy community life. The village hall, whilst set back from the main road host a full range of events. Village pantomimes have entertained people from far and wide for many years, and regular flower festivals showcase the talents of florists, local artists, and the WI.
