A CMS is a web-based system that allows users to keep their web pages up-to-date with very little technical knowledge. Anyone who can use a web browser is able, through the CMS, to keep the information on their web pages up-to-date with ease.

The CMS works by separating the technical layout of the page from the underlying HTML code. The user types their text in as plain text, or uploads an image and lets the CMS take care of the coding and formatting, presenting a finished web page to the end user.
